About me
My name is Gretchen Matta, I am an artist living in Arizona. As a self taught artist, I continually research the techniques used by my favorite Old Masters. But I am also fascinated by some of the great painters of today. Being an artist is all I ever wanted to do. I do not have a degree in art and have never taken classes, but I am very passionate about creating art, it is what I was born to do.
In addition to being an artist I am also a wife and mother of two boys. I am fortunate enough to have my own studio next to my house with fantastic views of the Superstition mountains and Sonoran desert. Rather than be labeled into a specific segment of art, I enjoy many styles of creation for my work. Some of the artists that have inspired me include John Singer Sargent, Gilbert Stuart, Peter Paul Rubens, Michelangelo, Jacques-Louis David, and Vincent Van Gogh's fantastic use of color.Gretchen Matta
